annabelle p asked:
e.g. Dora, Spongebob, Sesame Street etc. I would have preferred them in their original language; at least, it would have helped in furthering my grandchildren’s education specially in learning the English language. I always allow them to watch these educational kiddie shows but since it has been translated into Tagalog…
sorry, folks. i agree spongebob is not educational but it entertains my 2 grandchildren ages 1 and 2. done in english, it helps them to understand more english words and the language, of course.

you’re right miss annabelle.
but i guess it was done,
so the poor children could also relate to the show.
well, tv is not just for those who can speak english.
there’s also this,
what we call the common ones.
if you want your child to better learn english,
switch to disney or nickelodeon.

To answer, I would prefer that it should be in English. They are educational and yes AP, they are helpful in developing a child’s English proficiency. For the fact that these shows are meant to be that way. And they should not be considered as an anime or just an ordinary cartoon.

i dont think Spongebob is an educational show for children. we Filipinos are such talented people we should be doing our own shows, not only for kids but also our soap operas, reality shows, etc. instead of those tagalized versions.

I’ve only seen the tagalized version of Spongebob, and I must say, it was pretty good. I was afraid they’d butcher it. However, I’d still prefer them in their original language. I totally agree with you on the subject of educating.

My five year old nephew loves them. He is learning English but not yet.

I like some…but some…no..
I like it when Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, Princess Sarah was translated but regarding Nick Cartoons or Disney ones….sounds irritating to me…duno why!

who thinks spongebob is an educational cartoon?
can you call a show with full of dumb characters like *patrick the dumbest drooling starfish living under the sea* essential to a child’s learning process?
it’s mainly for entertainment.
dora the explorer might be a bit better than spongebob in terms of educational purposes. still, i think sending kids to school and teaching them how to read books is the best.
they learn while being entertained.

Unless they’re Japanese, they should air original English versions.
Or better, create original Tagalog or Cebuano cartoons…
